| Born 1873 in Leiden,
Holland. Astrophysicist and internationally
reputated astronomer, posthumously acknowledged by the naming of the Astronomical
Institute 'Anton Pannekoek' at the University of Amsterdam.
Well known marxist theorist and one of the left radical dutch
'tribunists' before the I. World War. Participant with strong influence within the german
left radical wing of the Sociademocratic Party of Germany. Together with Henriette
Roland-Holst and Herman Gorter supporter of the Lenin/Bolshevic wing of the Zimmerwald
Left during the War. One of the main theoretical figures behind the 'german/dutch left'
during the german revolution and the early 20'ies. Backgound 'mentor' of the dutch GIC and
one of the main theoretical founders of the 'council communist' tradition of the 30'ies
and 40'ies.
Died 87 years old in 1960.
