In 1953 Pierre Chaulieu/Cornelius Castoriadis sent the first 11 issues of the review Socialisme ou Barbarie to Anton Pannekoek.

The first response to this was Pannekoek's letter to Chaulieu of November 8, 1953.

This letter was then reprinted in Socialisme ou Barbarie no. 14, April/June 1954 together with a response from Chaulieu.

Anton Pannekoek did in fact continue the discussion with a second letter, but this was not published by S ou B.

Both letters of Pannekoek's to Chaulieu were later reprinted by the group around Maximilien Rubel in Cahiers du communisme de conseils no. 8, 1971.

These letters have also been reprinted by Henri Simon in a pamphlet published bu Exchanges et Movement in 2001.

The present English version is not based upon Pannekoek's original letter, but is only a retranslation from the French version in Socialisme ou Barbari into English.
